Uniworld is planning three new river ships for 2027, with two additions in Europe and another vessel for Portugal's Douro. The expansion gives travelers more upcoming options to compare within the boutique river line.
Chief executive Ellen Bettridge outlined the plans in an interview published by Cruise Industry News on Oct. 19. The report describes a period of fleet investment, with further additions expected in 2028.
What the expansion includes
The 2027 additions are Audrey, Marlene, and São Rafael. Bettridge said Audrey and Marlene will have interiors inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, while São Rafael expands the line's Douro presence.
The executive also described future ships for the Danube, Rhine, and Southeast Asia in 2028. Separately, Uniworld plans two 2027 yacht sailings through a partnership with Aqua Expeditions.
Those yacht departures should be distinguished from the three new river ships. They represent a different kind of trip and operating arrangement.
The interview sets out the line's plans. It does not provide every cabin layout, price, or final operating detail needed for an individual booking.
Choose the river before the newbuild
A newly built ship can be appealing, but the route is still the foundation of a river cruise. Decide which destinations you want and how the itinerary connects them.
Look at the starting and ending cities, daily touring, and time available for independent exploration. Then compare the ship attached to each departure.
A one-way itinerary can require different arrival and departure airports. A round trip may simplify some arrangements while producing a different sequence of visits. Neither is automatically better; compare the complete journey.
For the Douro option, examine the actual sailing and excursion program rather than assuming every ship offers the same experience. The river name alone does not settle how much time is spent aboard or touring.
Look beyond the design theme
An interior inspired by a famous figure gives a ship an identity. It does not tell you whether the cabin layout or public spaces fit your needs.
Review the deck plan when available. Check room size, window or balcony design, bed setup, and the location of the category you intend to book.
Travelers who need particular access arrangements should ask detailed questions about both the ship and excursions. A general description of a new vessel is not enough to answer those questions.
Use Cruise Frog's Uniworld page to compare the wider fleet and follow the upcoming additions. Confirm final details with the line before paying for a specific cabin.
Assess the full package
Compare the complete price and the services included in the fare. Ask about transfers, excursions, drinks, and any optional experiences you expect to buy.
Check deposit and cancellation conditions, especially when booking a ship well before its planned debut. Keep the written itinerary and benefit list with the reservation.
Uniworld's expansion provides more future choices, but the best match remains a particular ship on a particular route. Start with the places and pace you want, then decide whether one of the new vessels offers the accommodation and style that justify choosing it over an established option.
