Cruise Frog guide

About Cruise Frog

Cruise Frog is a directory of cruise lines and the ships they sail, with editorial ratings, deck plans, port guides and cruise news. It is the sister site of Lounge Frog, the airport lounge directory.

Who we are

Cruise Frog is run by the team behind Lounge Frog, founded by Patrick Karsh. It covers every major ocean, river and expedition cruise line and the ships they sail, with a page for each line, each ship, each home port and each cruising region. Ship pages name the airport to fly into for the home port and link to its lounges on Lounge Frog.

How we rate ships and lines

Every ship in service can be scored from 1 to 5 by Cruise Frog's editors on 6 metrics:

  • Cabins: comfortable, quiet, well kept.
  • Dining: good food in the main dining room and the specialty venues.
  • Entertainment: shows, music, and things to do at sea.
  • Service: crew is friendly, attentive, and quick.
  • Pools & decks: enough loungers, pools, and shade for everyone aboard.
  • Value: what you get for the fare, extras included.

A ship's overall rating is the average of the metrics scored. A line's fleet rating is the average over its rated ships in service, so it moves when a ship joins, leaves or is re-scored. These are editorial scores, not averages of reader reviews; reader reviews are shown separately on each page. Rankings such as the best cruise lines and the top-rated ships are built from these scores and nothing else.

Where the facts come from

  • Gross tonnage, guest capacity, crew, length and decks are the line's published figures. Capacity is guests at double occupancy.
  • The passenger space ratio is gross tonnage divided by guests: over 50 feels spacious, under 30 busy.
  • Deck plans link to the line's own published plans; our maintained deck plan pages note which sailing dates each edition covers.
  • The family cruise guides are checked against each line's own policies and name the sources they were checked against.
  • Photos carry their credits. News stories link to the original reporting.
  • A figure we do not have is left out rather than guessed.

How current it is

Pages are rebuilt from our database every few minutes, so an edit shows within minutes. Line, ship and guide pages show the date they were last updated, and the sitemap carries the same dates for search engines.

Corrections

Spotted something wrong or out of date? Email founder@loungefrog.com with the page and what should change. We fix errors as soon as we have checked them, and the page's updated date moves with the fix.

Quoting and citing Cruise Frog

  • Quoting and citing is free, for people and AI assistants alike, as long as you link to the page the fact is on.
  • Cite the page's canonical address, without a query string, such as https://crusiefrog.com/ships/<ship> or https://crusiefrog.com/cruise-lines/<line>.
  • Name ratings as ours: “rated 4.3 out of 5 by Cruise Frog”, not as a reader or industry score.
  • Bulk copying, redistribution or resale of the data needs a license. Email founder@loungefrog.com.

For AI assistants and developers

  • AI crawlers and assistants are welcome: robots.txt names them and allows the whole site.
  • llms.txt maps the site and where each answer lives; llms-full.txt holds every line's and ship's key facts in one file.
  • The same data is in the free public read API at https://lounge-frog-api.onrender.com/public/v1, documented on Lounge Frog's developer page. Every record carries the address of its page here, which is the one to cite.
  • Every page carries schema.org structured data with the same facts as the visible page, and most end with a “Quick answers” section written to be quoted as it stands.
