Status matching and moving earned cruise points solve different problems. I would use a match to understand the benefits available on the next sailing, then consider Points Choice when deciding where to build long-term progress. Treating them as the same feature can lead to the wrong request.
Royal Caribbean's Points Choice FAQ says the program lets eligible sailing points go to a chosen loyalty program across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Silversea. It also says the separate status-match program remains unchanged. The distinction matters more than the shared corporate ownership.
A matched tier is not a transferred balance
Start with the actual points or days in each account. Then record any tier you receive through matching. Those are different pieces of information. A matched status label does not mean the destination account contains the same earned balance as the original program.
Our Royal Caribbean line guide, Celebrity guide and Silversea guide help compare the vacation products. I would choose the sailing first, rather than let a matched label persuade me onto a ship that does not suit the trip.
Points Choice asks where future progress is most useful
Imagine you usually sail Royal Caribbean but are trying Celebrity once. The useful question is whether the points from that trip should build your usual program or start a longer relationship with the new one. The answer depends on your likely next sailings and the benefit thresholds you can realistically reach.
Use the current exchange table for the cabin and brand involved. Do not assume a point equals a point across the three programs. Royal Caribbean says exchange rates are reviewed annually. A number copied from an older cruise forum may not describe your sailing.
The request has a deadline and a consequence
The FAQ allows a request before sailing and up to fourteen days after the cruise. It says requests cannot be changed after submission and points can transfer only once. I would make the decision while planning the trip and save the confirmation with the cruise documents.
Check enrollment in the receiving program before submitting. Make sure the member details are correct and keep the sailing information available. Allow the published processing time before assuming missing credit is an error.
Do not mix in unrelated currencies
Points Choice is not a mechanism to move credit card rewards or casino balances between brands. The FAQ excludes Royal ONE card points and casino gameplay points. It also gives special rules for certain Celebrity bonuses and cabin upgrades, so read the relevant section if one applies.
Our cruise loyalty directory is a good place to compare the programs without confusing their names. I would write down the next benefit I expect to use, the remaining gap and the sailing that could close it.
The most sensible destination is often the program you will use again. A large-looking conversion into an unfamiliar currency may be less valuable than steady progress toward a practical benefit. Keep status matching, earned points and card rewards in separate columns, and the choice becomes much easier to judge.
