About Rotterdam

This Rotterdam, the sixth ship of the name, was the lead ship of Holland America's R class and its co-flagship with Amsterdam, entering service in November 1997 with twin-uptake funnels styled after the 1958 Rotterdam. A major refit in Hamburg in 2012 updated the ship. In 2020 she and Zaandam made headlines when COVID-19 cases on board led to both being refused passage through the Panama Canal, and that July Holland America announced her sale to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. She left her namesake city as Rotterdam for the last time on 11 August 2020 and, after conversion at Damen Shipyards, has sailed as Borealis since July 2021.
