How we ranked these ships

Ranked by Cruise Frog's overall editorial rating (1 to 5, averaging cabins, dining, entertainment, pools and decks, service and value), with ties broken by passenger space ratio, recency of refit and itinerary variety. A ship qualified only if it sails adults-only year-round or for the bulk of its program under a stated operator policy: Virgin Voyages and Viking ocean ships (18 and over), Saga's ocean ships (50 and over), P&O's Arcadia and Aurora (adults-only except about 20 announced family sailings from December 2026 to September 2027), Marella Explorer 2 and Marella Discovery 2 (the latter adults-only from November 2026 per TUI Group), and Ambassador's Ambience (adults-only no-fly program). Ships without a cover photo in our catalog (Brilliant Lady) and river ships were left out. Policies and ship facts checked against operator pages and trade reports through October 19, 2026.

How we chose them

An adults-only ship is a simple promise: no one under the age limit boards, on any date. We kept to ships where that promise is written into the operator's policy, then ranked them by our editorial score. The list runs from a new Viking ship with more than 50 tons of space per guest to a pair of 1990s British ships where the fare, not the finish, is the draw. For the lines behind them, see our ranking of adults-only cruise lines.

1. Viking Vela

Viking Vela is the first of Viking's enlarged ocean ships, delivered by Fincantieri in December 2024 with 499 veranda staterooms for 998 guests. Nobody under 18 sails on Viking, and there is no casino or kids' club to fill the space, so the ship is given over to an infinity pool, the Nordic spa and quiet lounges. Fares include an excursion in every port, Wi-Fi and wine and beer with meals. Her 4.3 rating is matched by her sisters; she edges them on size and age.

2. Scarlet Lady

Scarlet Lady launched Virgin Voyages in 2021 and set the template: 18 and over, no buffet, about 20 places to eat included in the fare, and a nightlife program that runs late. A November 2024 dry dock added suites and cabanas. She sails four- and five-night Caribbean trips from Miami with a stop at the Beach Club at Bimini, which is as low-risk as a first cruise gets, and moves to Athens for summer 2027.

3. Valiant Lady

Valiant Lady is the freshest of the Lady ships after a May 2026 dry dock in Palermo that reworked ten spaces and added Ariya, an Indian restaurant. She is based in San Juan through April 2027 for six- to eight-night Caribbean voyages, which give you more ports than her sister's Miami runs. Same 4.3 score, same tight bathrooms.

4. Resilient Lady

Resilient Lady entered service in 2023 and is the Virgin ship most often found on longer routes, including the Mediterranean and transatlantic crossings. If you want the Virgin food and the adults-only deck but a sea-day-heavy itinerary, she is the one to book. Brilliant Lady, the 2025 sister that can fit through the Panama Canal, would sit here too, but we have no photo of her yet.

5. Viking Octantis

Viking Octantis is the adults-only rule taken to the ice. The 378-guest expedition ship has 79.8 gross tons per guest, the most on this list, plus a hangar for Zodiacs and submarines and a science lab. She sails Antarctica in the southern summer and the Great Lakes in the northern one. The 4.3 score reflects the cabins and service; entertainment is a lecture.

6. Spirit of Adventure

Spirit of Adventure is Saga's second newbuild, delivered in 2020 and sailing from July 2021 for 999 guests aged 50 and over. The Khukuri House, which Saga calls the first Nepalese restaurant at sea, gives her an edge over her sister, and the fare bundles a chauffeur to Portsmouth and travel insurance. Her 4.2 score is the highest of any British-market ship here. The price is high and the pace is slow, by design.

7. Spirit of Discovery

Spirit of Discovery arrived in 2019 as Saga's first purpose-built ship and brought the line its first proper theater and gym. She shares her sister's 58.3-ton space ratio and included specialty restaurants, and sails round trip from Portsmouth to the Canaries, Norway and the Arctic. She scores 4.0, a touch behind on cabins.

8. Arcadia

Arcadia is P&O's larger adults-only ship, a 2005 Vista-class vessel for 1,952 guests. She is reserved for adults for most of the year, but TravelMole reports that P&O has opened eight sailings between December 2026 and September 2027 to families, so check the date. Carnival has said she leaves P&O after August 2029. She rates 3.3.

9. Marella Explorer 2

Marella Explorer 2 is the former Celebrity Century, rebuilt in 2019 as an adults-only ship with all-inclusive drinks, a Champagne bar and a golf simulator. She runs Greek island loops from Dubrovnik in summer and Eastern Caribbean loops from Barbados in winter, sold as flight-inclusive packages through TUI. She rates 3.2, strong on value, weaker on entertainment.

10. Ambience

Ambience is Ambassador's flagship, the 1991 Regal Princess with Renzo Piano's domed forward lounge. She sails year-round from London Tilbury on adults-only no-fly cruises, including 40-night Caribbean loops, and had a three-week refit in early 2026. With 50.2 tons of space per guest and plenty of single cabins she is a comfortable ship for the money; the 3.2 score reflects her age and the extra-charge restaurants.

11. Aurora

Aurora is P&O's oldest and smallest ship, a 2000 Meyer Werft build with a tiered liner stern. She has been adults-only since 2019, with the same caveat as Arcadia: 12 family sailings are scheduled from December 2026 to September 2027. She rates 3.2.

12. Marella Discovery 2

Marella Discovery 2, the former Legend of the Seas, is the newcomer to this list. TUI Group is turning her into a permanent adults-only ship, with a speakeasy, an escape room, a karaoke room and a crafts area replacing the kids' spaces for winter 2027. Until the refit lands she scores 3.0, held back by small cabins, but she sails the Canaries and the Adriatic at Marella's all-inclusive prices.
