Sixteen newcomers, from yachts to megaships
PortMiami has named the ships making their first visits in its 2026-27 cruise season. The list mixes small luxury yachts, expedition ships and two of the newest large ships in the industry. Cruise Industry News and Seatrade Cruise News reported the lineup on October 1, 2026, from a PortMiami announcement.
Here is the schedule of first arrivals, according to Cruise Industry News:
- October 2026: Ponant's L'Austral and Explora Journeys' Explora III
- November 2026: Orient Express Corinthian, Silversea's Silver Shadow, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's Ilma, and Emerald Cruises' Emerald Sakara
- December 2026: Silversea's Silver Ray and Silver Dawn, Azamara Quest, and Four Seasons I
- January 2027: Margaritaville at Sea's Beachcomber and Silversea's Silver Nova
- February 2027: Silversea's Silver Spirit and Carnival Firenze
- June 2027: Norwegian Aura
- August 2027: Royal Caribbean's Hero of the Seas
Silversea alone accounts for five of the new arrivals.
Busiest cruise port again
The new lineup follows a strong year. During its fiscal year that ended September 30, 2026, Miami regained the title of the world's busiest cruise port, with more than 10 million passenger movements, according to Seatrade Cruise News. PortMiami says it contributes $61 billion a year to the local economy and supports more than 340,000 jobs.
"Miami has long been recognized as the heart of modern cruising," said Jonathan Daniels, PortMiami's director and CEO. Daniels took over at the port this year after leading the Maryland Port Administration.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the coming season "reflects the enduring strength of cruise tourism." She added that cruising "began in Miami and continues to flourish."
Two headline debuts in 2027
Most of the newcomers are small luxury ships. The two big names come later. Norwegian Cruise Line's new Norwegian Aura is due in Miami in June 2027. Royal Caribbean's Hero of the Seas, from its Icon class, is set to arrive in August 2027. Royal Caribbean has moved Hero's debut up to August 1, 2027.
Margaritaville at Sea's Beachcomber, the former Costa Fortuna, starts sailing from Miami in January 2027. It is being refitted at Harland & Wolff in Belfast before then.
Get the terminal right
With this many ships and terminals, the port's own advice is worth repeating. PortMiami asks guests to park in their ship's assigned garage or surface lot. It asks them to arrive only at their scheduled boarding time and to use the right entrance.
That last point is easy to miss. Terminals AA, A, B, C and D are reached through the PortMiami Tunnel. Terminals E, F, J and V are reached over the PortMiami Bridge, Cruise Industry News reported. If your ride takes the wrong route, it can mean a long loop back.
Before you leave for the port, check three things in your cruise documents:
- Your terminal letter
- Your boarding time slot
- The garage or lot assigned to your ship
Why it matters if you are not on a new ship
PortMiami's guidance applies to every guest, not just those on the new ships. If you are flying in on the day you sail, leave extra time for the drive from the airport and for finding your garage.
My take
If you are sailing from Miami this season, put your terminal letter in your phone's notes along with your parking garage. It is the one detail that saves the most stress on boarding day. If you are curious about Silversea or Explora, this winter brings several of their ships to Miami for the first time.
