Egypt is back

Seabourn has released its 2029 Summer Ocean Voyages. The program has 166 sailings to more than 180 destinations in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, and Canada and New England. Three ships sail it: Seabourn Ovation, Seabourn Quest and Seabourn Encore.

The headline is Egypt. Seabourn says it is returning for the first time in more than five years. Select Seabourn Ovation voyages will stay overnight in Alexandria. That gives guests time to reach Cairo and the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Crystal Morgan, who leads Seabourn's itinerary planning, called it "an overnight at the gateway to the pyramids of Egypt."

The Mediterranean season

Seabourn Ovation sails the Mediterranean from March through November 2029. It offers 21 different itineraries across the Western Mediterranean, Italy, the Adriatic and the Aegean.

New specialty voyages include Italian Coast & Fireworks Over Corsica, and Pyramids & Evening at Ephesus. There is also a first-ever Seabourn call at Kapsali on the Greek island of Kythira.

The season keeps Seabourn's free Evening at Ephesus. Guests enter the ancient city after hours for a classical music concert among the lit ruins. In some ports, guests can also go Shopping with the Chef at local markets.

A trip few cruise ships make

Seabourn Quest sails Northern Europe from May to September 2029. The big new trip is a seven-day voyage into the Gulf of Bothnia, between Sweden and Finland. It goes farther north in the Baltic than most cruises.

It includes first-time Seabourn calls at Härnösand, Kemi, Rauma and Oulu. The season also adds first calls at Alta and Frøya. There are long or overnight stays in Bordeaux, Rouen, Helsinki, Tallinn, Edinburgh and Hamburg.

Guests can also visit Turku in 2029, the year it marks 900 years. Seabourn says Turku was founded in 1229 and is Finland's oldest city.

Many voyages can be joined into trips of 14, 21, 28 days or more.

Alaska with an expedition team

Seabourn Encore returns to Alaska in 2029. It sails seven-day trips between Juneau and Vancouver from May to September. There are also 10- and 11-day trips that go north to Valdez, Whittier and College Fjord.

Every Alaska voyage includes glacier viewing. Seabourn's Expedition Team gives talks on wildlife and the region. Guests can pay for Ventures by Seabourn trips, such as Zodiac rides and kayak outings. Some routes also cruise past British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest, a good place to look for whales and orcas.

Canada and New England in the fall

Seabourn Quest ends the year with 12- and 13-day voyages in September and October. They stay overnight in Boston, Quebec City and St. John's. Smaller stops include Gaspé, Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Prince Edward Island.

Who should look at this

If the pyramids are on your list and you want a small ship, the Alexandria overnight is the one to watch. If you like ports most people have never heard of, the Gulf of Bothnia trip is the rare one here. Four of its stops are new to Seabourn.
